Review
Yash starring in Prashanth Neel’s “KGF: Chapter 1” is one film that has had an indelible mark not only in Kannada cinema but also beyond its boundaries. The movie lives up to its mammoth hype with a gripping storyline spanning between 1951 and 2018. It keeps audience attention through non-linear narrative technique as it makes us see Rocky who was just a shoe shine boy in Bombay during the sixties growing into a kingpin of crime. Although somewhat prolonged, the first part provides solid grounds for subsequent events, and especially the climax before the end creates enough anticipation for what should be expected.

The film excels on several fronts:
Screenplay and Storytelling: Non-linear storytelling maintains interest throughout keeping each character introduction mysterious. Rocky grows nicely appealing to masses using smart narrative tricks.
Performance: Rocky was depicted by Yash. He did it powerfully and convincingly, expressing the character’s intensity and ambition. The ensemble cast is also great because each character contributes to the depth of the story.
Music and Background Score: Ravi Basrur’s background score has enhanced the mood of this film whereas music has complemented the narrative wonderfully.
Areas for Improvement
Despite having strengths in abundance, there are some sections that could have been executed better:
Length: In order to retain a consistent storyline, it would have been better if the first half of this film is more brief.
VFX: A few visual effects could have been polished further so they fit with others which are of high quality in terms of production value.
Character Depth: Some characters such as bad guys felt like cartoons and hence needed deeper development.
Conclusion
It is an intense mix of drama, action, and ambition when “KGF: Chapter 1” comes to life onscreen. It takes Kannada cinema to the next level and makes fans expect a sequel. Therefore, if you love stories about ascent and control, then “KGF: Chapter 1” should not be missed at all.
